Pwm fan multifunction hub and digital rob multifunction controller should they be connected to the main power supply and the motherboard because I have it connected to the motherboard and they do not work

I followed the instructions and they say specifically if you want the motherboard to syn with the rgb controller then do not connect to pwm. Which I did however my fans do not have any power source.
