Your Path to Discovery
Day 1: Cusco to the Cloud Forest. Your adventure starts early with a 4:30 a.m. pick-up from your accommodation in Cusco. We travel for 8 hours by private van, stopping in the colonial town of Paucartambo and visiting the mystical Pre-Inca Tombs at Ninamarca. We then enter Manu National Park at Acjanaco (4000 masl). As we descend into the Cloud Forest, be on the lookout for diverse flora and fauna, including bromeliads, orchids, and animals like woolly monkeys and Peru’s national bird, the Cock-of-the-Rock. We'll spend the night at Bamboo Lodge.
Day 2: River Adventures and Nightlife. After breakfast, we travel by van to Atalaya Port (500 masl) and then by boat along the Alto Madre de Dios River. We'll explore Machuwasi Lake on a rustic catamaran, where you may spot capybaras and alligators. After a visit to the thermal baths at Aguas Calientes, we head to Dorado Lodge. After dinner, we’ll do a night walk and visit a mammal clay lick with a chance of seeing tapirs and wild pigs.
Day 3: Deep into the Reserved Zone. We take a boat to the Limonal Checkpoint and enter the pristine Manu Reserved Zone. This is where the true wildlife sightings begin, with a high chance of spotting the jaguar. We’ll also see large caimans, spider monkeys, and sloths. We’ll visit Otorongo Lake and climb a 20-meter tower to look for giant river otters. The night will be spent at Casa Matsiguenka Lodge, followed by a night hike.
Day 4: Wildlife and Cultural Immersion. This day is the highlight of your Manu Reserved Zone 6 Days And 5 Nights tour. We visit Salvador Lake by catamaran, a hotspot for giant river otters. We'll also witness a "symphony" of macaws at a clay lick. In the afternoon, you can learn about the Matsiguenka tribe’s culture and jungle survival techniques. We’ll finish the day with another walk to look for monkeys.
Day 5: Downriver. We leave Casa Matsiguenka Lodge early, with another opportunity to spot a jaguar. We’ll travel by boat for about 4 hours, and then for another 4 hours to our next stop, Papaya Lodge. That night, you can choose to do an optional walk to a special shelter to observe large mammals at a clay lick.
Day 6: Return to Civilization. After breakfast, we take our final boat ride to Atalaya Port, where our private transport will be waiting to take us back to Cusco. We will arrive around 6 p.m.
